I’d like to have you come as my guests to a fun summer cook-out, put on by the Optimist Club of West Bloomfield. It would also give me a chance to introduce you to some of my Optimist friends.

WHEN? Wednesday, August 24 - 6 to 8 pm

WHERE? Marshbank Park (Hiller Road, north of Commerce Road) Marshbank Lodge

WHAT? An informal gathering with food, soft drinks and water provided by the Optimists

The Optimists have as their slogan, “Friend of Youth,” and they try to do things for the benefit of the youth of our community, particularly the disadvantaged. We sponsor youth essay and oratorical contests, provide scholarships, recognize students for their accomplishments, distribute holiday gifts to needy families with children…..AND, we’re always looking for new ideas.

The Optimists meet each Tuesday for breakfast (for an hour), usually to hear a community-related speaker and to plan our activities.

We know that there are some people who aren’t able to attend a weekly meeting, but who would like to support the youth work that the Optimists do in our community. With that in mind, we have formed a group called, OPTIMIST FRIENDS. At the cookout, there will be a brief explanation of how FRIENDS can be involved. It would be great to have you become an OPTIMIST FRIEND.

I’m looking forward to your response…..

Remember, it’s August 24, from 6 to 8 pm.

Note: If, for some reason, you’re unable to attend the cookout, the annual cost for being an OPTIMIST FRIEND is $100, which goes toward supporting our youth work. Checks may be made out to: Optimist International.
